OLED

OLED stands for Organic Light Emitting Diode. A diode is an electric conductor in which electricity can only flow in one direction. A light emitting diode is a diode that lights up when electricity is passed through it. OLED displays are made of millions of little LEDs. Each LED has one of 3 colours: red, green, or blue. An OLED display will apply electricity to the different LEDs to produce many different colors. By doing this with all of the millions of pixels, the display can produce pictures. OLED displays have a few advantages over LCD displays. Because OLED displays don’t require a backlight, they can be made much thinner. OLED displays also require less power and the pixels in an OLED can react quicker than those in an LCD. “Organic” in this term comes from chemistry and means that the LED is made of carbon-based materials.

OEM

  1. Original Equipment Manufacturer. There is more than one definition of this term, depending on the industry, background or social circle. This is the one that we use: A company that brings in several components from other sources in order to manufacture a product. Original in this case means “new and different” or “not a copy”. Our customers typically are OEMs. They make a brand new product from several different components, including the computers and displays that we provide them.
  2. Another common definition of OEM indicates an arrangement whereby the vendor of a computer or computer component will brand and/or otherwise customize their product for the purchasing party. For instance, New Era Electronics may provide a computer to “Company A”. Company A does not want their end customers to see where their components come from and wants to establish brand awareness. So New Era Electronics could make an OEM branded computer with Company A’s logo on it.
